Job Description:

The managing editor is responsible for directing the overall operations, content and presentation of b, a free daily created for the young adult demographic.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following and other duties as assigned.

* Directs and consults with the art director, assistant editor and images editor to plan and execute feature and enterprise covers.
* Determines and directs daily assignments and workflow of print and online products.
* Oversees and ensures the creation of distinctive, alluring, high-energy content and images that clearly reflect the Baltimore area and the demographic group.
* The Managing Editor directly supervises the Art Director, Images Editor, and Assistant Editor.
* Manages b content and freelancer fiscal budgets.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Manages and delegates responsibilities to supervisory positions responsible for the creation and production of written and visual content.
* Directs coverage and content decisions of the print and online products.
* Supervises, establishes goals, and evaluates the performance of the Art Director, Images Editor and Assistant Editor.
* Establishes and regulates departmental policies related to content, workflow and presentation.
* Has hiring authority for positions, which directly report to this position. May provide hiring recommendations for positions not directly reporting to this position.

* Bachelor's degree in journalism, graphic design or related field required.
* Three to four years of work-related experience including management experience is required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, SOFTWARE PROFICIENCIES

It is expected that the incumbent have knowledge of and proficiencies in the following software applications:
* Experience using Mac and/or PC software.
* Familiarity with InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
