“Ultimately, the decision had to come from me. To be alongside greatness raises your level,” James told “Good Morning America’s ” Robin Roberts in an interview which aired today, referring to recent Heat acquisitions Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. Read more here

Here’s more coverage of LeBron’s move, and Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert’s angry letter below:

“Dear Cleveland,

All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;
As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his “decision” unlike anything ever “witnessed” in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us. The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you. There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don’t deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal. You have given so much and deserve so much more. In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight: “I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE” You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our “motivation” to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels. Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that’s simply not how it works. This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown “chosen one” sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And “who” we would want them to grow-up to become. But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called “curse” on Cleveland, Ohio. The self-declared former “King” will be taking the “curse” with him down south. And until he does “right” by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

Just watch.

Sleep well, Cleveland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day….

I PROMISE you that our energy, focus, capital, knowledge and experience will be directed at one thing and one thing only:

DELIVERING YOU the championship you have long deserved and is long overdue….

Dan Gilbert
Majority Owner
Cleveland Cavaliers

This is late in coming, but we couldn’t help but take notice of these 80’s street- skateboarding pioneers. Street skating has been around since the invention of the skateboard, but it wasn’t until the late 80’s that street-skating started to get the same kind of traction that vertical skateboarding was already getting in California.

Thanks to the initial exposure of these skateboarders below (on widely distributed VHS tapes of these films in the 1980’s), street skating was (and has since become) a respected art-form that’s still alive and very well today, and is arguably more popular then ever.

We compiled some videos below that tell these skater-pioneers stories better than we can.

Below – Here’s Tommy Guerrero skating in Future Primitive, the seminal Powell & Peralta movie that was released in 1985, that single-handedly introduced the world to a real skateboarding pioneer, and the original Bones Brigade:

Here’s the Bones Brigade from the same film, ripping it up in the NYC streets, in a much different New York City then the one that exists today:

Here’s a great clip of Mark Gonzales skating in Video Days, which was put out by Blind in 1991. Gonzales (aka “The Gonz”) is widely credited as one of the first skaters to skate down hand-rails, in addition having an incredible ability to rip it up on Vertical ramps as well:

Here’s a clip of Natas Kaupas showing off his skills in Streets of Fire (by Santa Cruz).
See what he does at 1:07 upon his encounter with a fire-hydrant, this ollie alone should have won awards. Not to mention, how many other skaters could ollie over garbage cans like this guy?

Here’s a clip of Rodney Mullen on That’s Incredible proving why he was the world’s best Freestyle Skateboarder in the history of the sport, and a lot of his maneuvers would find their way to street skaters nationwide over time…

See him here in action many years later with a Louis Armstrong soundtrack, ripping it up on the streets:

Here’s Per Welinder (yep, another clip fromFuture Primitive), who can probably be best described as the Silver Medalist in Freestyle skating one step away from Mullen:

Lastly, here’s a contest video clip from 1986, with a lot of the pioneers in action at
The same Sacremento, CA skateboarding contest:

“Tiger Woods remains the game’s most riveting show, even in defeat. No player routinely seizes the moment the way he did again Saturday, when he finished with three consecutive birdies – punctuated by his breathtaking 3-wood shot around one tree, along the coastline and onto the 18th green (the shot of the tournament).

Woods when he opens his mouth: Not so riveting. Not so appealing, either.”

The coach is Guy Morriss, who also coached at Kentucky and Baylor and played 15 seasons in the NFL with the Patriots and Eagles. “I’m proud of my players for doing that,” Morriss said, according to an incident report. “This was the best team building exercise we have ever done.” Read more about this clown here…

Fox television’s ratings juggernaut “American Idol” stole some of NBC’s thunder on Tuesday night, beating its prime-time Olympics coverage into second place by about 23.6 million to 20.3 million viewers, according to early data on Wednesday.

Ah yes, a Newspaper error of spectacular proportions for Sports fans. The Indianapolis Colts definitely lost the Super Bowl, but at least a Virginia newspaper fantasized about a score-change. The Virginian Pilot newspaper in Virginia Beach reversed the score in its early editions, so that the headline and the story were correct, but the score, printed in bold faced red, showed the Colts beating the Saints. The newspaper later issued a statement saying, “We’re embarrassed, and we apologize to all our readers, especially Saints fans.” Denis Finley, Editor of the Virginia Pilot, offered this lengthy explanation:

“It doesn’t get much worse. The whole country watches the Super Bowl, the whole country knows the score, and we get it wrong? Preposterous. Unbelievable. Embarrassing. How could this happen? … It was, as simply as I can put it, human error. It’s hard to believe we can make a mistake like this when at least a half-dozen veteran journalists were involved in producing Monday’s Sports section. It’s hard to believe we can mess up what is arguably the biggest sporting event of the year, but we did.” Come on guys, how many sports journalists does it take to accurately report on the Super Bowl SCORE for crying out loud!?!?!
