Armenian Journalist jailed for basic “Freedom of Speech”…
Nikol Pashinian, a leading opposition journalist in Armenia, has been sentenced to seven years in jail on charges of “organizing the mass unrest” that followed the February 2008 presidential election.
Pashinian, the editor in chief of the “Haykakan Zhamanak” daily, was one of the speakers at the postelection demonstrations. During the protests, the supporters of defeated opposition leader Levon Ter-Petrossian came out in the streets to protest what they said was an election rigged in favor of Serzh Sarkisian (who won the election). If the defendant attends all court appearances and either pleads responsible or is located guilty, by Idaho law, I.C. 19-2923, a cash bond can be utilised to shell out fines and expenses: when the income has been deposited, if it remains on deposit with the time with the judgment for that payment of a good, the clerk have to, under the path in the court, apply the cash in satisfaction thereof, and right after satisfying the good and fees, should always refund the surplus, if any, to the party posting the deposit.
